The Drinks Business launches new Chelsea wine fair this month

5th October 2015

Adding to the welcome plethora of London-based wine fairs this year is The Wine Show – Chelsea, an initiative of Europe’s favourite drinks trade publication designed to stimulate local interest in and appreciation of fine wines. Celebrating grapes from across the globe, the fair is due to take place in the Old Town Hall, Kings Road, London and will run from 5pm on Friday 16th October to the evening of Sunday 18th October.

Residents and visitors in the surrounding areas of Battersea, Fulham, Knightsbridge and Kensington are encouraged to attend the event, where 35 carefully chosen stands will be showcased between three main halls. Visitors will have the exciting opportunity to taste and buy wines with the help of expert tasting advisors, as well as attend free masterclasses hosted by leading professionals. A menu of food from around the world will complement the wines, and a charity tombola will be held in support of Help for Heroes.

This is a great chance to develop your tasting skills and learn about the art and science of winemaking in the company of fellow wine enthusiasts. Out of the 500-plus wines on show, many have won medals in DB’s Global Masters competition series, where international wines from each variety of grape are judged blind by the finest palates in the world. Among the exhibitors are Jacques Fleury, the southern French flagship brand, London-based Humble Grapes organic wines, Champagne Moutardier, the Spanish Wine Club and Wines of Argentina.

A few years ago, Capital Vintners had the pleasure of tasting various wines from the Mendoza region of Argentina whilst on a tour of the region’s wine producers. Mendoza is known for its outstanding Malbec wine, where the alluvial soil and poor organic matter makes for top quality grapes. However, it is our opinion that the white wines of the region are often underrated. They have a pleasant greenish colour, and fresh, sweet, tropical fruit aromas coupled with moderate acidity and low alcohol content make them wonderfully easy to drink. Have a sip for us!

Tickets are reasonably priced from £30, and more information can be found on their website – http://thewineshowchelsea.com/
